The principle of why invention consists in the
idea of applying to the purposes ofart and manufacture
in the large way the practice that has been
so long in use ofextracting and excluding air and of
those vessels in the way of philosophical experiment.
The invention not depending upon the
particular mode i which thissuch exclusion may be effected,
it would be is needless to say any thingexpatiate upon upon
may with regard to any such particular mode
in the way of specification: the modes in common
use might anyalmost of them be made to answer the
purpose. Should any othernew mode of effecting the
exclusionexhaustion be hereafter discoveredinvented, of obtaining
an exhausted Chamber, the application of such
exhausted chamber to the purposes of art or
manufacture would not the less be
