Experimenting
Rule of perseverance - its importance
From p.118 5 45
Whatever experiments be instituted, and whatever
plan for pursuing instituting them be pursued, perseverance there
is one object is a rule, quality the importance of which can not be too strongly inculcated.
I mean that of perseverance. It is to no purpose
to order an experiment to be made if provision be not
made for its their being properly conducted proper provision
be not made for pursuing it them to a conclusion, and
making a practical use of the knowledge afforded
by the result. It is even attended with two very
bad effects; the one relative to the particular experiment
in question: the other relative to experimental
knowledge in general
