4 Jany 1802 3 Colonies Thoughts

Great Britain has but two causes of war with this
nation. 1. Trade and Colonies of Trade. 2. Honour and Glory.

France and other Continental powers have three
the above two and one more; extension of territory.

When Great Britain stamps again into an immersion war, it will
of his own seeking, it will be either for the want of common
sense or common honesty.

The rule of common honesty is Do unto others
as you would that others do to you. The rule of honour
and glory which is in the first place in opposition to
the rule of common honesty and thereby to the rules of common
sense is — Do to others what you would not bear
they should do to you.
