Hi Jan, I've not come across this type of hyphenation very often before, so thanks for bringing it to our attention. In these instance, we'd ask you to transcribe the complete word, (e.g. 'have a separate estate; [line break] or if the person...) so the word shows up in searches. Many thanks!

That note is indeed correct - another example of JB's attempts to quantify anything and everything!

Hi Jan - on the vertical lines, these aren't really deletions per se (despite how they look). This is one of Bentham's own editorial conventions: he would strike through pages/paragraphs when he had incorporated them into a work, so that he would know what he had used and when. They can be quite misleading for us, though!
In these instances, it's best to leave a comment to say 'This paragraph/page has been struck through', and then just markup regular deletions as and when they occur - I'll do that in these ones. Hope that makes sense! I'll also update the transcription guidelines at some point, and thanks for bringing that to my attention.
all the best,
Tim

Hi Jan - I've had a go at this, and you were quite right to use paragraph breaks to separate the columns. These types of manuscripts are very unpleasant to deal with - hopefully we'll find a solution with the forthcoming modifications to the Transcription Desk.
All the best for Christmas and New Year from all of us at Transcribe Bentham! Thank you for all your contributions this year - they are very much appreciated.
best wishes,
Tim

Thanks, Jan. The surname of the Sir Henry in question was 'Mildmay' - more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Mildmay

Thanks for taking this one on, particularly given the length and complexity. We've retained the variant spellings for the time being - it's certainly not beyond JB and his secretaries to spell certain words differently within the same paragraph!
many thanks and best wishes,
