★ Find a new page to transcribe in our list of Untranscribed Manuscripts
I like the really messy ones. There is a pleasure in making out deleted text, and figuring out what JB realized he didn't want to say. Only thing I can't handle is very light writing, which my old eyes can't make out.
Very much enjoyed the new instructional video but I was just wondering what it means when you refer to the colours of encoded text in MS Word -- is there a special programme for transcription? Thanks!
Thankyou! Next goal, 500 completed folios by the end of April (and a small dent having been achieved in the outstanding Bentham manuscripts)!

Re JB/002/027/002 The handwriting of this folio also looks different from JB's. Is there any chance that this was written by his brother Samuel, the naval architect?
I am working on JB/002/027/002. The information at the bottom of the page assigns this page to "Annuity Notes", but the subject matter is the extravagant (his word) wages JB was forced to pay to shipyard workers. Should this folio be reassigned to another topic?
Sorry, I forgot to mention those in my email. Have now managed to find the relevant text on google, so will update the folio as soon as my server decides to play ball! D.
Thanks TB Editor, this was my first page. It has been a little hard to get used to his writing, but it is starting to come along now.
Cheers
Jane
Thank you for confirmation on my first transcription--both I sent it in properly and that the quality was good. I feel a remarkable sense of accomplishment! Best, O.
Btw, thank you! I managed to achieve it on the 4 month anniversary of signing up with TB (and 3 and a half months after working on my first transcription (23rd Sept. if I remember rightly!), so very pleased! I've now worked on 179 folios, 176 of which have been submitted (protected or accepted) and 3 in progress! The magic 200 still eludes me! But not for long!!
Delighted the project is going so well!

Do you happen to know the number of one of Bentham's folios that he wrote on Christmas Day which is yet to be transcribed!? If so, perhaps you could let me know. I'll be transcribing something every day, on Christmas Day too, but it would be rather nice for it to be one that he actually wrote on Christmas Day himself! Infact, do you khow any that he wrote on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day too!? Let me know please if you do.
I'll not be transcribing till this evening now, so have a lovely Christmas and New Year! D.
Thank you! I had hoped to reach it by 8th December, and Acolyte by New Year, so a little behind schedule. So far I've worked on 119 folios and submitted 114 (5 are still in progress). Would like to break the 200 barrier by New Year's eve, so will have to see what I can do!

So sorry TB Editor, wrong end digit, here it is: http://www.transcribe-bentham.da.ulcc.ac.uk/td/JB/096/040/001 this is the one with the text missing! D.
Hi TB Editor, When checking off my acknowledged folios (and reading your comments about folio JB/096/040/002) I noticed that there are a few words of text missing from one of the lines. On the line starting 'says our Author' the words 'he tells us, is that mdash' should be added to the end of that line (I think I'm correct in saying). Perhaps you could check this. Many thanks! D.
Hi TB Editor, just thought I'd let you know that you've omitted to protect JB/002/088/001 which you confirmed on my board (as being locked) on Monday.
D.
Thank you!
I was visiting the protected pages to check whether or not you had confirmed the 'unusual spellings' (so that I could update the 'unusual spellings' page, and in folio JB/096/031/002 you have the following: <sic>acknowlege<unclear>
I think perhaps the last tag should be changed! Apologies if that was my error, I didn't realise there was a problem when I read the final saved version. D.
Good morning TB Editor, I notice that you have updated the Top Users this morning but you haven't updated my points. Could you do this please when you have a minute. I am after all working very hard to get as many folios transcribed as I can, whilst also collecting points. I'd like my ongoing efforts to be acknowledged, otherwise visitors to the Top Users will think I'm slacking off now I've made it to the top spot, which isn't true at all of course. There are very few days when I don't contribute! Thanks! D.
Good morning TB Editor, I just wanted to let you know that I have started (and almost completed) a folio from box 96 (which I randomly selected in the early hours of this morning (you may have noticed on the recent changes page). Having just had a look at the contents of box 96, the slide bar showing the number of folios begun is registering zero, which clearly is not the case. I don't know how this is activated (or how it operates) so just thought I'd draw your attention to this discrepency. I'll forward it to you later after I've checked the french text in a translation toolbar. Here's to a good week! D.
Re: JB/002/214/001 and your comment about it only showing up in the final production, that would explain why I thought I'd done it incorrectly! D.
I tried that first of all, it simply didn't read correctly ... I clearly must have done something wrong. Okay, will try that again next time I'm brave enough to tackle one of these multi-level deletions (joking, I like the challenge!). D
Dear TB Editor, I was re-reading JB/002/214/001 as you were working through it and spotted three more tweeks required, 1 of which you've spotted. I would like to suggest that the word after 'redemption (4th row from the bottom of typed page) is money; and that the word on line 6 of paragraph 3 is in fact issue and not sphere. If you have a look at the other sentences subsequently, Bentham has used the word again several times (ie. referring to 'closed issue' and also 'both issues' somewhere too). Sorry I didn't manage to decipher these prior to sending to you. D.
Hi TB Editor, You don't seem to have protected or commented on JB/027/053/002 that I sent you on Friday evening, though I realise that you've viewed and tweeked it. Is there anything else you feel it needs before it's ready to protect? If so, please let me know.
I'd quite like to have a go at transcribing the letter to William Pitt (JB/002/015/001) but it currently does not have the 'click here to edit' comment on it, and therefore is inoperative, and although I read the info. on the site about uploading a new page (and tried to do it a week or so ago), I didn't manage to master it. It's a little too challenging for my level of knowledge, and with the chronic ongoing headache that I have (hemicrania continua). If you could manage to get it operational, then I'd love to have a go at transcribing it.
Many thanks! Diane
Good morning, Can you please re-issue the previous notice. You've incorrectly written the folio number as JB/027/080/001. It should be JB/027/082/001. Thank you! Diane
