Thames Police Bill

or any other Justice or Justices of the Peace for the same County,
City, Division Liberty or Place, and if such person
or persons respectively shall not give an account to the satisfaction
of such Justice or Justices, how
then immediately or within some reasonable time, by producing
the party or parties of from whom such suspected article or articles
so suspected as aforesaid was or were bought or otherwise lawfully received or give
or otherwise give an account to the satisfaction of
such Justice Justice or Justices how such articles came
to be deposited in such place as aforesaid, or make it appear
to the satisfaction of such
Justices that they
knew not that the
same were or knew
they were by
what means they
were so deposited

then
the Justice and in such case the person or
persons in whose House or Place the said suspected article or articles
was or were found as aforesaid together with every or any
such person as shall so appearing to be privy as
aforesaid to the depositing thereof shall be deemed
and adjudged guilty of a misdemeanor: and that on
conviction
shall suffer
suffer as herein after
mentioned:

and
for the better securing the evidence of any such persons or
persons
who by whose testimony
it may in the
judgment of such Justice Justice
or or Justices be made
appear whether such
suspected articles were
lawfully or unlawfully
obtained the truth of the
case may more effectually
be made appear

as to upon such examination as aforesaid
shall not appear to have been so privy as aforesaid
it shall be lawful to and for such Justice or
Justices either if the he or they see occasion
to commit any every or any such person to
any prison within the jurisdiction of such Justice
or Justices for any some reasonable time or untill
he she or they such person or persons shall either have been fully and sufficiently examined
touching the premises and heard in evidence, or untill his her or
their examination
respectively touching
the premises shall
have been completed

they shall
respectively have found for that sufficient security to the satisfaction
of such Justice or
Justices

for the undergoing
or completing such full examination, as
aforesaid.
