Decree of the general Cortes, for the extinction of the
Carthusians, Bernardines, Benedictines, the monks of St Basil &
all other religious orders—

Article 1 — All monasteries of the monkish orders are suppressed,
including those of the Benedictine Cloisters of Arragon & Catalonia,
as also the Convents & Colleges of the four military orders of St John
of Jerusalem, the Knights Hospitalers, & the Hospitalers of San Juan
de Diös

3 The merits of individuals belonging to these respective institutions,
and the rank which monks may have obtained in them,

4 To every monk ordained in sacris who is not above 50 years of
age, shall be secured an annuity of 300 Ducats; to those

income whereon to subsist—

8 In regard to the unordained professed -monks- the nation
does not consent that they shall exist, except subject to
the bishops—

9 No greater number of monkish prelates shall be recognized,
than the resident superiors of each convent, elected by
the respective communities—
