By authority Under the direction of government certain assumed facts
had been assumed and to exist and held up to view – facts the in the existence of which
the people were commanded to declare their belief
with the severest for punishment danger provided for
all who with relation to those same facts should presume to declare a disbelief or even doubt. In relation to those same facts In a large
number more or less considerable and gradually encreasing the
people had come to entertain in their own minds a disbelief.
At the same time, were it so to happen that in relation to any
one of those facts which in truth were an object of disbelief
to him he were to declare it to be an object of belief, a
notion persuasion prevented among the people in question that by such
falshood, he would at the hands of almighty and all-
being be subjected to a scale of infinity intense as intense and
lasting torture lasting torture.
