Hi Tim, In case you're not familiar with the project, here's a link to a NY Times article about the London Science Museum's plan to build an actual machine according to Charles Babbage's 19th century plans: www.nytimes.com/2011/11/08/science/computer-experts-building-1830s-babbage-analytical-engine.html?_r=1&ref=todayspaper What particularly struck me is the substantial funding for the project ("10-year,multi-million dollar") and the museum's plan to crowd-source the search for analysis of how to complete Babbage's plan. Competition from another London institution! Must be something in the air. And--something completely different--regarding creepy stuff, here's another link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBsC8uQ-tgs It's Don McLean singing "On the Amazon," which might give you a smile or two; perhaps you've already heard it. I was astounded recently to learn that the song originated in an English musical comedy of the 1920's. Lea
Please note: the folio I have just sent you, JB/139/196/001 is in fact edited folio 729, and not 732 as stated in my email submission. I seem to have lost my place when writing up the submission time and date on my master sheets, and wrote it against the wrong folio. Hence the edited folio number was incorrect.
D.
Have managed to find the whole thing in one of my many tab windows. If you could unlock JB/139/461/001 please I can copy and paste the whole (completed) contents into the folio. As it's finished, you may as well have it all as I've got it here. I hate to think my time has been to no avail. Thanks. D.
Rather annoyingly the folio I have been working on for the past three quarters of an hour or so, and completed and submitted to you at 11:05 (well, the email was sent to you then) has not saved in full, because you protected it at 11:03. Half its contents have not saved. Even though I know you're protecting all of box 139 because of the recent publication in this area, I was hoping to get this little one done before you did so. Shame! D.
Okay, great! Btw, JB/071/145/003 has only been partially written (as JB/01/145/003), so it's not possible to view the folio from my board ... perhaps you could add this again! Many thanks.
D.
I checked to remind myself which transcript this is and saw that the edited version has not reproduced fully, so most of the material isn't there to be read. Hope you can put this right!
Thanks for your encouragement. Just sent off another one! Found out about this project via the overwhelmed DJO at Buckingham.
You've missed one ... JB/072/170/001, but I've checked on the recent changes page and realise you protected it yesterday, which is what matters. So that's okay! D.
Thank you! (I'm just in the middle of transcribing my first submission from France, prior to the start of the conference this afternoon!)
D.
how about JB/115/082/001 (submitted 11:18, 10th March) and JB/115/080/001 (submitted 14:09, 14th March), they both look perfect, but you haven't protected them!? D.
Sorry, I don't seem to be able to count today ... it was 1 more required, which you've now added. Thank you!
something like 'imply' (though he could have initially went to write something else, then changed it to imply, before deleting it?)
