18 Tit. V. I. Judicial Estab.
Parochial auspices of pure liberty and without monopoly a
nursery not of which young men might be
taken selected by Judges for the honourable station of Judge
Depute and by the people for the lucrative and still
more honourable station of principal Judge.
16 Theatrical attractions. To entice stragglers, and inspire by the into all power
of visible forms a respect for the dignity of Justices
I would borrow pomp [+] [+] in as far as I could afford it but without forgetting economy from the theatre and the
Church. Justice should have his altars as well as
Religion: the scene scene <add>I would employ</add> should be decorated with opposite
historical paintings and emblamatical imitations
of real sculpture. I would engage the
call in the military band if the place afforded
one: and engage the Church organist to do the
honours of his art to the Judge as in the Church to
the congregation. I have a collection of instrum
implements of penal exhibition not the more afflictive
by being diversified by analogy with and which
I would might help to furnish out the scene: but these
are not to the present purpose.
If the clergy knew in some instances displayd given
too much attachment to the of unrighteousness themselves but too good <note>but too well deserved to be <add>called of this world</note> a to the appallation of children</add>
it is no reason why the children of light should not suffer themselves to
be exceeded by them in those things in which they
have display'd their wisdom.
