perhaps by some rather uncommon strange accident that it can ever be so. Not
that there is any possible offence whatsoever to which by some
accident or other it might not possibly be made subservient
by some accident or other. This has been shewn already with regard to two
to which it seemed as little likely to be made subservient so
as to most others that can be assigned to with Simple
personal Injuries and Unlawful Confinement: and I one might could
undertake to make out the same proposition with regard
to any others. A mistake however on this side, a mistake on the side of redundancy,
could not be attended with any ill consequence.
For if the offence be such an one as it is impossible to commit,
no one can be affected by any punishment that
stands annexed to it (a) But if any case in which any kind
of mischief can be done by Forgery Falshood be left unprovided
for, such a deficiency might at any time be atteded with pernicious
