proportion to the value of the loss. in the same manner
as for criminal devastation

— In subjecting to designs affecting reputation For Forgery in the view of subjecting another to any
loss of reputation, or of advancing the reputation of his own
skill or talents to the prejudice of any competitor, particularly in or for any lucrative employment, (a) or of justifying or excusing the fact the offender, over

(b) Lucrative Employment. Nothing is more common than to see
a Tradesman or Manufacturer forge the name or mark of another
Tradesman or Manufacturer with the view of giving reputation
to his own wares. This practice comes under the abovementioned
provision. It calls loudly for restraint. It is prejudicial pernicious
to in several points of view. To the individual Trader or Manufacturer by depriving him
of the profit which he would make by the superiority of his
wares. Could it be known what that profit would amount
to, for instance ten pound in the course of a year, it would be seen that the mischief
to him is just as great as if a Sum to the same amount were stolen
