Of Falshoods in general Diss.
— in the view of establishing a title to freedom From p. 38. No 1 Falshood in the view of establishing a title
to in one's self or another to freedom in contradistinction
to any kind of servitude is a particular
instance of a Falshood committed in the view of obtaining
an exemption. The nature of this offence is susceptible of an indefinite number of modifications, and the profit and mischief
of the offence it are accordingly susceptible of an indefinite
multitude of degrees according to the nature of
the servitude and the endowments qualifications of the servant:
— in the view of subjecting a person to servitude Falshood in the view of subjecting a person
to be deemed such or such a state of servitude with is a particular
instance of falshood committed in the
view of subjecting a man to a personal obligation
According to the nature of the servitude the offence
may vary in point of mischief from a slight
injury to one of the most atrocious of crimes. It is evident that The
enormity of the mischief will also depend in a considerable degree
upon the state and condition which the party on
would be in were the falshood out of the question,
and from out of which it is the tendency of the offence
to remove him. If he were already under in a given
state of servitude with respect to a given master,
in such case a falshood the effect of which were would only be
