however that because it can not be applied to a given
species of instrument previous to that mode of exception
which is to give it validity, it may not be applied
subsequently. For either of two courses may be taken. The
instrument may be made invalid till the process of
registration has been performed: or it may be made
valid for a certain time and then to become invalid
unless in case that process be not performed before the
expiration of that time. This much may suffice in
general: to pursue the subject further would be to
plunge into the labyrinth of local considerations,
and at the same time to breach upon the civil branch
of Jurisprudence.

Without the formality of registration other

papers and stamps to be affixed by different persons. The
paper marks must exhibit the year, and the redundant
paper not consumed within the year must be render'd
inapplicable to the like purposes. Thus much may
serve as a hint of the general principle, which any
one that pleases may apply to practice.
