Of - Forgery. Definition
the signature. Thus also to take a Seal or part of a Seal
from a genuine Deed and affix it to a spurious one, may
be Forgery. So on the other hand to write any thing over
a signature already made.
3. — Nor by what means. It matters not by what means the alteration
is made; whether for instance by covering the characters over with
other marks, as in erasure by a pen; or by taking away
the characters alone; for instance by discharging the colouring
matter of Ink: or by taking away the characters
together with part of the substance; for instance by erasure
with a Penknife: or by taking away characters
and substance altogether; for instance by tearing off a piece
of that part of the paper or other ground that has
been written on.

same thing as a forgery by fabrication. Alteration is
