Ins. Offences against Condition — Adultery

15

1. Hates her Husband If a woman a husband was already become indifferent to the
husba wife, he would become worse than indifferent
to her after an amour with another man, by the
comparisons she would have learnt to make to his
disadvantage. See p. 1. No 2.

16

When a woman knows nothing of the other sex
but from her husband his defects will be much
more supportable and the enjoyment she derives
from his caresses much more valuable to her the
enjoyment instead of being attributed to the sex referred in her mind
will be attributed referred to the individual.

17.

1) Adultery Wife to the Husband The adultery infidelity of the wife is more mortifying to the
husband, than the infidelity of the husband is to the
wife. Because a slight from an inferior to a
superior (especially of two persons who are constantly
in each others company) is more mortifying than
a slight from a superior to an inferior

18

Adultery of the husband — aggravations An infidelity with of the husband with a common
woman if transient a woman of very superior rank will in general will be less mortifying to
the wife than an infidelity with a woman of
equal rank who is not common. The reason is
that in the first case the infidelity promises to
be transient as proceeding only from physical desire
or, at most from the such a passion for mere beauty
as will go off: in the other case it is more likely
that a preference in point of it is in point owing to esteem has a share
in producing the effect. But an open or continued infidelity with
a woman of a rank much inferior such as a servant will be more mortifying
than with one of inferior equal rank.
