Offences Division against Genealogy.
It is evident that those a relationship which is remote can subsist
no otherwise than by means of a certain
number of others that are each with respect to one another, immediate: nor
one that is collateral, but by means of a certain
number of others which are some of them each with respect
to some other
As to collateral relationships they are constituted
either by one two immediate relationships as in
the case of Brother or by a greater number
either by relationships which are all immediate which is the case with brotherhood and sisterhood:
or by relationships of which some one at least
is remote; which is the case with all other collateral relationships. Those which are constituted by
relationships which are all immediate, are
constituted either by two such relationships, or by
four ones which is the case with brotherhood and
sisterhood of the half-blood, or by four such
relationships, which is the case with brotherhood
and sisterhood of the whole blood.
Semi-natural relationships are those which are
constituted by a mixture of natural relationship
and matrimonial. These of course are susceptible
of all the varieties as of which those which are purely
natural, are susceptible together with others depending upon the stage or
