Of Confinement
-chief of the offences of this which come under
the denomination of simple personal injuries
is liable to be modified by the same cause:
and that also in a variety of ways. It is
liable to be modified by that cause in several of the ways
in which that of the personal offence unlawful confinement
is liable to be modified by that same cause.
but not in all: and the mischief of that It is not however liable to be modified in all those ways:
for offence not liable nor is it susceptible of any
diversities of which the that of the latter offence is not susceptible.
It seemed better therefore that an analytical
view of the purposes to which for the sake of which
this present offence may come to be committed given
once for all in this place might supersede
the necessity of giving the like view with
respect to the purposes for which a simple
