NONCON - Exempla ex Xenophonte.
Xenophon's Anabasis. L. 5 c. 8. Launcl. 367. Xenophon in answer to cross-examining to a charge brought against
him by a soldier for hating him , enumerating
the most common occasions of quarrel v. it. p 117. have amor: laudation , asks him
successively concerning each whether it were for
that. Υιδιον παδχειν p.716 also 724 - to Xenophon himself - mind the topics evasive as to the accusations ib. & 722. Was it for not giving me something I
asked you for ? was it for not returning me something
that was mine ? was it in a quarrel about
a Boy? was it when I was in liquor?
Ib. Launcl. p. 333 In the 4th Book Ch. 6.th. He speaks tells very coolly a story of the Son
of a Chieftain of a Village just come to the
age of Puberty, whom he says he took away
from his Father, & gave the charge of him to one Episthenes
a Megapolitan that who was to let the father (who went as guide with them) have him again if he (the father) behaved well The father , terrified by the brutalitis of Cherisophres, the other General found means to make his escape, - Episthenes, however he seems to observe with satis<add>faction</add> says he took a
fancy to him in the love way way of love, & a very
faithful companion he found had <add>made to him</add> in him ever afterwards
In another place L. 7 . C. 4 p 409. he speaks relates with how he
for another Episthenes an Olynthian whom he takes notice of for
his particular propensity to that Passion, a Boy
of the same age, whom Seuthis was just going
to shoot in a general massacre —Upon Episthenes
clasped the Boy in his arms, & cried he would die soo
than let him go. Upon this the Thracian condescended to let him live.
