Long gave me
to understand the
requisite directions
had been given

Delivered Written and dated on the 26th of November, the letter was sent
in by That same day me, on the 27th. That same day, catching Mr Long in one of
his traverses, his pace as usual not slackened by by the rencontre
the but rather quickened by it the interview, rencontre I received
had the satisfaction of hearing his assurances, that
the requisite directions had been given, and what
I wished for would be done. His precise words
I can not take upon me to report. In dealing
with such men, a man to take up the best chance
for being safe safely — — though that best chance would be insufficient as it would be —
insufficient —ought to have a man should have never be without a short hand writer at
his elbow. The Honourable Gentleman's precise words I can not take upon
me to recollect: not yet mine in answer. But
what I do recollect — and recollect with certainty,

On the next day but one (28th Novr 1799)
Mr Mitford (1) one Another of the Chief Clerks, Mr Mitford,
in answer to my enquiries, informed me in positive

made of it by him was in this way — not not in the way of reference to former transactions — (a
