13 Feb 1802 E1 2 Notes 17
Mr Wise's Land

E1 (d) Not to speak of myself.

E 1 (e) Not to speak of Mr. Long. — "Precedent" cried Precedent not
necessary

the Honourable Gentleman with his never-failing peevishness
two or three days after, upon my catching him
at one of my only places of audience the passages)
"Precedent? — what is the use of a precedent? — There
is no form necessary for such a thing as that
" —
as if I did not know that as well as he could
tell me.
The use which was my motive — the only use I had in view in for
asking it, was sufficiently spoken of plain enough. stated plainly
if he had thought fir but he could not bear to see it.

Two measures
degrees of influence

E1 (f) The supposition had a mixture of truth
and error in it
Partly true, partly false — the supposition
about the two measures. Two prices, no: that could
not be done without the Deputy Surveyor General :
and howsoever it might have been the case the suff with
the principal, who certainly did not want motives for
true serious application attention on his part — — justice requires me to say I saw
nothing about the actual officer, the Deputy, that had could
lead me to the expectation of finding him thus tractable.
The price promised to the Court Lord would not be greater
than the price promised to the uncourtly Commoner:
the only difference was the promise to the Lord was
kept, the promise to the Commoner broken altogether.
The word two calls for another amendment: not
two measures only — but as many as, according
to the geometry and arithmetic of Th Right Honourable
and Honourable Gentlemen, there were distinguishable degrees
of influence. So at least favour always forms I speak according to the reiterated testimony of my own experience.
