13 Feb 1802 E1 3 Notes 18
§§7 Mr Wise's Land

E1 (g) The Honourable Gentleman's plan (it has already
been observed) was much the more economical one.

E1 (h) Of course it was not the Honourable Gentleman's
pleasure to do any such thing, or to take any
notice of the letter, otherwise than as already mentioned.
The reference afterwards made to the Surveyor Generals
office was made not made till many months afterwards, nor
without the oth further sollicitations that will appear
under their respective dates.

It being now the very depth of the Long Vacation, the
the pretence standing excuse of want of time leisure was at this time
at its minimum.

On the 12th of August having observed the requisite
credentials from the Agent of Mr Wise, I waylayd
the Honourable Gentleman once more, with

hands — the Epistola hispeda and the Epistola glabra.

get away from me till after I had time to describe
both epistles specimens by their respective specific
characters which took as little cost him less time than it costs Your
Lordship to read this account of them. He started
from the hispeda as a seaman would have done
from a sea-nettle: but, not knowing how to defend
himself, he received the G glabra. In the
hispeda he expected of course to find more of the history
of the case than it would have been decent to produce at
the Board: and not being provided with an excuse for negating
the application altogether, he submitted to the necessity of
sending it to the Board, and thence to the Surveyors Office, in
its [+]
[+] its defenceless form,
under the pious determination
that nothing
should ever come of
it.
