most attractive cast as well as of the least attractive
stamp as of any other, would sooner or later
be apt to lose its audience. But the sort of
Sermon which might be preached, and preached
without ceasing is the Police Gazette, being
this untitled unannounced and unsuspected Sermon, cautiously, sparing sparingly,
and in a manner
imperceptibly though
at the same time instantly
incessantly unremittingly
introduced
unannounced into a publication
the great bulk of which
composed principally
and to appearance
exclusively of that
sort of
proportionately introduced
and interwoven - inextricably and as it might
be imperceptibly interwoven with that sort of matter which
so long as man is man can never lose or so
much as relax its hold upon their affections - especially
of those otherwise untutored minds, for whose direction
it is more especially designed , - there would
be neither end nor limit to its influence. Resting
on its own bottom, the best conducted work, even
of the most popular denomination as well as
cast, the best penned series of Essays, will be
dependent <add>for its result not only in the ability of the hands that conduct it, but
dependent on the everflirting taste and humour
of the times. for the extent of its circulation and
the measure of its influence. If it bears a
party word for its title, the very title name will be
enough to keep the remedy the remedy out of the hands of of class of
those that have the most need of it.
