every
approach Land
or Boat Constable
and Water or
Occasional Constables
And be it further enacted that the said Special Justices
(or Justices sitting and acting by special appointment as aforesaid)
or any two of them, of the said Marine Police Office shall as soon
as conveniently may be after their appointment appoint retain
and employ a sufficient number of fit and
able men, not exceeding twelve at any one time, who under the name
of House or Office Constables or
Land Constables, shall
be permanently attached
to the said Office, for
the purpose of being
employ'd principally
by on the Land, as
also in such number
as from time to
time shall be found
necessary, another set of
Constables who
under the name of
Water Ship Constables or
Boat Ship Occasional Constables
shall be occasionally
employ'd retained by the said
Office for the purpose
of being employ'd principally
in Boats or on Ship board or
otherwise in Lighters or Craft in and upon
the said River
whom
(with <add>the consent of such persons) they are hereby authorized and empowered to swear
in, to act as Constables for preserving the Peace and
preventing Robberies Larcenies, Robberies and other
Felonies Felonious and other unlawful modes of obtaining
and receiving property on the T on the said River within
the limits aforesaid, and within thereof of the Port of London
From London Bridge
to the Hope Point - or
the limits mentioned
in the 2 G. 3.
and on the River in upon and upon
said River Thames and within the several Counties, City and Liberties
herein above mentioned, which said as well by night as
by day: which said Constables so appointed and sworn as aforesaid
shall have all such Powers and Authorities, Privileges
and Advantages, as any Constable duly appointed now
has or hereafter within his Constablewick, may have and <add>shall be entitled under the by virtue of any Law
authority of the said Justices <add>be subject to all such obligations as any <add>such Constable
is or may be subjected to and of under and by virtue of any Law
or Statute now made in force, or hereafter to be made, and
shall obey all such lawful commands as they shall
from time to time receive from the said Justices, for the
apprehending Offenders, or otherwise conducting demeaning themselves
in the execution of their said Office or Employment:
and such Justices or any two of them
shall and may at any time dismiss from his said such several
employment, every such Constable whom they shall
think remiss or negligent in the execution of his
duty, or otherwise unfit for the same, and appoint
such other fit person in his stead as to them the said Justices shall
seem meet, upon and upon every such dismission
all powers and authorities, emoluments, privileges and advantages vested
in such person in and by and by virture of his such his
appointment
appointment as
aforesaid, shall
immediately cease.
