Police Revenue Report
In their tenth and eleventh Reports Your
Committee re on the subject of the Hawkers
and Pedlars Office (being their 10th Report)
and their Report on the subject of the Hackney
Coach Office (being their 11th Report) Your Committee represented
the expence of these offices as being in their
opinion susceptible of very considerable reduction —
and on that view they suggested in concurrence proposing at the same
time for the choice of the House, various measures a variety of measures or expedients as
capable of being adopted any of them contributing to that
effect
One expedient was — as to the Hawkers and Pedlars Office, to
leave relinquish the judicial authority to the functions altogether to the
authority (viz: that of the M Justices of the
Peace) which already possesses a concurrent jurisdiction
over the same ground — and as to
the business of granting licences, to transferr it
over to the Commissioners of the Stamp Office,
with no other addition to the official establishment of that
office than that addition the transfer what would made by the transfer of two one or two Clerks
to be transferred to it from the Hawkers and
Pedlars Office for that purpose —
