indefinite increase it is impossible for Your
Committee not to be led to the supposition
that there may be a time when the throwing ridding
it off the public of may present itself to the Parliament
as a measure absolutely indispensable. The
transforming it selling it or giving it over to some foreign power
if any foreign power, governed by the usual
Masters can be led to regard the acquisition as a
desirable one
look upon it as a
valuable acquisition possession worth purchasing or accepting - the transferring
the sovereignty of it to some branch of
the Royal Family or some subject of
high though inferior rank if any such personage should
be willing to accept of it such dominion
in the condition of residence — the establishment
lishment of a government purely monarchical,
republican or resembling that
copied from the constitution of this country
the members of the governing body being
taken from among the inhabitants of certain
descriptions or of all descriptions — the perpetuating the authority
in the hands
of the Official Establishment
for the time
being
the evacuating
the spot altogether as far as
the establishment paid by this country
military, naval and civil is concerned
leaving the colonists to settle the business
of government among themselves — all
these are expedients each of which may appear
novel and romantic because either
altogether unprecedented or without any recent
