These Expences that come under this head
may be distinguished — in the first place according
to the Court in which the prosecution is
instituted; in the next place according to the
stage of prosecution out of which the expense
arises — according to the nature of the expence
According and is employd upon through or persons (under
which latter head comes the consideration of Salary. [+]

the nature description of the fund,
private or public, on
which the charge bears
at present.

The principal Courts of Criminal and Penal
jurisdiction are
1. The Assizes Court of Oyer and Just
Daily Delivery at the Assizes: to which in the
Metropolis correspond the Old Bailey Sessions
2. the Sess General Sessions of the Peace.
3. The Petty Sessions - or Sessions held by
Justices of the Peace in not a number not
less than two
4. Courts held by single Justices
5. To these may be added the Ecclesiastical
Courts in the cases where censure and not
the mere decision of Civil Claims is the object

1 Of the proceedings of the Ecclesiastical Courts nothing
is ever published. Registers it is presumed
are kept: but neither by public nor private
nor curiosity have the contents of these Registers
ever been brought to light
2. Of the proceedings before single Justices
it is only by accident if any regular
accounts are kept — none such are ever
published.
