In point of precedent, met below the ten miles
radius assumed in the case of the Penny Post,
stands the five miles radius, assumed as already
mentioned by a much later Statute Ch (4.G.3.
Sep.2.c.27.SS.7) for the description of the distance within
which Costs are to be registered. See further note
[ ] to this Section under the word [Dockyards] and
note [ ] under the word [thereabouts]: and see Note [ ] to §.42.
where the extent of the proposed District is considered
with reference to judicial cognizance.

[ ]§.1Page [5] [Districts or Divisions] The Divisions here adopted
are the Divisions into which the several Counties
are already cast for the purpose of the business
of granting licences to Public Houses, as will
be seen below. They are termed Divisions as being
already known by that name: they are termed Districts
with a view to the purposes of this Act, and
that the common appellative thus given to them, may
match with the appellative London Police District;
in which case the word Division could not be employ'd,
that District can being composed of including a considerable
number and variety of Public House
licensing Divisions, and without reckoning and not
being exactly commensurate perhaps with any number of
them.
