Calendar of delinquency

In a word, the Calendar of delinquency will
be in to penal legislation what the thermometer is
in to Chemistry: and by the attentive observation
and practical application of it, the improvement
in the moral art, may come to rival the progress
made and continually making by the natural science.
SuchSo much ext additional fuel consumed, in a certain way, sosuch a
much so many degrees ofadditional heat produced, as indicated by the
thermometer: such a quantity of expence so much money or punishment expended, of expence
in punishment such a quantity of or both, such or such a reduction
effected inso many units subtracted from the sum total of offences in general
or in the sum total of such Offences of a more
class cast without such an equivalent instance
as the any but of offences of a less
cast, as indicated by the Calendar of delinquency.
