The Stamp Duty
for a Recognizance

A stamp-duty payable over
[ 2 ] If the Boar [ Stamped Paper ] p. 4: If A stamp duty
payable over and above the licence-duty could be
a considerable enhancement of it; and being to the same
amount in the instance of every class, as well those
who were deemed not deemed capable of bearing any thing above the high-
lowest rate of duty, as those who were deemed capable
of bearing the highest rate, would, under the appearance
of equality, be disproportionate and excessive.
In the instance of two of the classes it is exactly equal to the Country Licence Duty.
§. 1. [ 3 ] [ Surety or Sureties ] p. 4 In the Alehouse Licencing Act
(26 G. 2. c. 31. §. 1 ) the option is given between one a single
Surety for the greater responsible in the whole sum specified ( £10 ) or two
Sureties, each responsible, each of them in the half of that sum. There may
be a convenience in this option in some cases to
the individual, who may sometimes be able to find
two friends to answer for the sum between them for the smaller
sum, though he can not find any one person able and
willing to answer for the whole. And where the
option is in favour of the two Sureties happens to be embraced,
it may likewise be so much the better for the public, if
likewise the a provision herein after inserted be
