§ 2 [ 5 ] [ Experimental Philosophy. ] p. 20 Without the use of furnaces
and crucibles Apothecaries could scarcely practice exercise their
branch of the medical profession: Physicians and Surgeons
could not understand it. As to experimental philosophy,
the clog of a licence would be a real in fact be a great discouragement
to a study highly deserving of encouragement, and
to in appearance a still greater. As to this term
experimental Philosophy, though the use of these instruments
points particularly to Chemistry, the other
term is preferred as being more comprehensive, and
embracing the other case of experiments made
by persons not in trade, with a view to the improving
the construction of fire-arms and other weapons
instruments of offense and defense. This clause
was inserted on the supposition that a class composed of
all persons keeping crucibles &c was to stand part of the
Bill: should that be under this draught, as it stands at present [+]

have no application,
and would of course
be omitted.

§ 4 [ 1 ] [ Include a Retail &c ] p. 22. I have no opinion on
this subject: I mean only to exhibit it as a case
requiring to be provided for decided upon , either in this way or
the opposite.

§ 5 [ 1 ] [ inferior rates ] p. 23. Another string of cases
requiring decision ; and which are at here decided
upon, like the last, rather at a venture than
otherwise, for want of sufficient insight into the subject.

it is touched upon further on in the Part containing
the Regulations.
