Th In this plan of description two great weaknesses
follow are combined. The first weakness is the regarding
the pleasure practice as an evil: the other is the concerning as
if it could be lessened by such means. What they have
put out of sight they think they have destroy'd: just
as the herd of the politico-economical improvers, what
at a vast expence they have brought dragged under their eyes they bring into view
they think they have created: as the Irishman thought
he had annihilated danger by thrusting his head into
a bush.

This is what may be naturally expected and
this is the best that can naturally be expected from
that unfortunate class of men who are kept partly by
their own engagements and prejudices. the result of
their own engagements partly from the prejudices
of the public from doing enterprizing to do good
to any good purpose, and who under pain of being
condemned incurring the censure of a still greater degree
of & inactivity than is expected from them must take
some now & then some such method as this of
doing mischief.
