3 §. 1. Abstract
Part Mischief

But suppose one
individual insincere -

arises

Be this as it may — in the instance of any one such
individual suppose such insincerity to have place.
There then is mischief in at least one shape — viz.
the mischief consisting in the improbity plant which in
the shape of insincerity is planted in the moral part of
his frame Say

Mischief the first — Moral Insincerity: Depravation of morals by
the moral part of mans frame by insincerity implanted
in it.

man is blamed for
insincerity or praised
for sincerity, by
a reflex sensation
in proportion to
the sensibility of
the declarant will
be produced

2. When, in the course of the affairs of life, the conduct moral character
or character <add>used</add> of this or that individual coming in question, the vice of insincerity
comes to be important to him, at the accompanied as it
naturally will be with the naturally concomitant masters tokens of dis-approbation,
or the oft and aversion, or the opposite
sincerity, accompanied with the correspondent masters of
and sympathy, a sort of reflex sensation with of <add>will</add>
which any such incident on any such occasion will be not to act
in proportion to the sensibility of his frame be apt to be
productive attended is a sensation of self-condemnation and
inward shame produced by the contemplation of the
resemblance of his own conduct to to the conduct censured reprobated
or the contrast formed by it with the conduct approved.

inward shame.
