Appendix V
Archbishop & Co
1 2 9
In From the whole of these proceedings what is altogether
plain is that in the body of the good people at large
nay in any set of persons other than themselves
and the 26 persons whom it was their pleasure
to nominate the Members of the Bishops Bench did
not on this occasion see any a set of persons in whom
they thought fit to repose their any confidence. Confidence
is not a thing to be forced. Confidence from
any man can not with propriety be stated as the
right of any man. By the refusal thus made to of their
confidence of these Right Reverend persons to the ten or eleven millions of whom the
remainder of these good people is composed no violation
of the rights of any no injury was done to the
rights of any man.
On the other hand by the same reason no
title right of the have these same Right Reverend
persons to confidence at the hands of any other person individual
of the ten or eleven million above mentioned — say
the good people of England at large. By the
withholding from these same Right Reverend persons them
all confidence by the withholding from them all
confidence no injury will would be done by the good people
of England at large to any one of these same Right Reverend
persons. Now then good people my follow subjects
by in these men who by their solemn and published acts have as above with
heldin all their confidence from you — declared shew demonstrated that
they will not trust you with any share in the choice of
those by whom the money which they keep continue soliciting at
your hands is to be disposed of why is there that by you
they should be regarded as fit objects of your confidence.
