By an anonymous writer no statement
regarding so far as matter a mere matter of
fact can come with any claim to confidence, be
on his own authority exhibited as true. But as
a subject for enquiry, the sources of information
at the same time being pointed out, any such statement
may without impropriety be held up to view. On the of
May 1816 the annual meeting of the Society of
Schools for all was held at the Tavern
On that occasion, amongst other Speakers the Reverend
Rowland Hill stood up and amongst other occurrences matters of fact
stated the following on of lying within his own knowledge. Before
the National Society was instituted he was invited down to
Colchester to preach a sermon for the Schools-for-all
Society then stiled the Lancastrian Society. He
went down accordingly. Contributions to a
large amount were received then, a School
or Schools erected, and Scholars in large numbers
received. While the liberal system was thus
going on and flourishing, up started the under the
patronage of the Bishop the Na self-stiled National
the exclusionary system — and what was the consequence.
Of the number of children which it found partaking
of the benefits of the new Instruction, one third were
taken away by their parents. they chose Thus for the Reverend
Divine — They chose then these too conservative parents —
rather to leave the minds of their children
without culture in an uncultivated state, than to send
them to be poisoned by Church of England Catechism and
Church of England Liturgy
