Yes: No: if so it be, that we must have a substitute to the Bible let
it be any thing but a fixt one: fixt, it must alway for ever
remain at the same unmeasurable distance: movable,
there is always a possibility, and by the force of
reason even a probability of its being brought
nearer and nearer, till one day or other it may
have been brought back to a coincidence; or of
course, as the prostrators of understandings and wills
ought consistently to must if they were would if they were consistent
find themselves obliged nor indeed are they ever
indis to insist maintain contend has nothing to do with the
whole business, then let us give ourselves back to
authority, and return into the bosom that bosom of the original
Church from which we ought never to have
strayed. Which ever be the proper standard,
authority or reason or authority, there can be
no just ground for stop fixing at the point at which
any such point as that in at which the Church

authority she has reverted and is in continual perpetual
rebellion: reason she dreads and abhorrs, and
carries on wages against her a perpetual warfare
