Introd. IV
Rep. spurious
§.9. Actors who?
Archbishops speech
31 May 1816
4
Hostility all this while hostility what ground is there
for applying it as he there applies it? [Who are]
The persons to whom he imputes it who are they? Who
are they other than those who are regardin seeing
as it seems to them something wrong either in the
Church of England Catechism or the other parts of the Church
of England Liturgy or the Church of England Articles of
Religion think it would be wrong their children should
be taught have to believe them to be right and still
worse they should be learn to declare themselves to believe
them to be right when in truth they believe them
to be wrong, and therefore choose rather that their children
should remain without instruction instruction
which in their eyes appears immoral and irreligious
In the Schools-for-all system in any one of these Schools
are the Children taught one single to pass any condemnation
upon any part of the Church of England Liturgy,
the Church of England Articles or the Church of England
Ecclesiastical Establishment? No. Not in any one of them:
He can not say
there is
unless in the Bible those parts of the Bible which
are respectively taught in those Schools there be any
thing repugnant to these several productions of their
doing, which howsoever he may think is more than
he will prudence will suffer him to declare.
But then it is with these men prostration of understanding
and will towards whatsoever they take upon
them to command, this according to them is another
part of all men who are neither thus ready or
duty: and whenever this prostration ends, there what
they call hostility begins.
