Rid Yourselves &c
§. 1. Prelimy Distinctions
27.
Distinction 5th vers between
temporary and permanent
submission can
not be indicated too
soon. Universal resistance
from the first wd.
be the best result: by
despair, all endeavour
would be prevented.
By partial submission
at first, a temptation
would be offered
which rulers could
not resist. Sure result,
(as below) ultimate disappointment,
with intermediate
waste of
blood and treasure.
28.
General result:
1. To subject many, in
Spain and Ultramaria,
the dominion pernicious.
29.
2. To ruling few, beneficial:
the possession –
the endeavour to retain
or regain it – successful
or unsuccessful: among
the rulers are many
to whom war, the source
of universal loss, produces
more profit than
loss.
30.
3. Even in Ultramaria,
there will be, among the
subscribers rulers partakers
in the sinister interest
of Spanish rulers.
21.
Everywhere is the financial,
accompanied by
a constitutional, mischief.
From war, waste
and loss to all, profit to
money rulers, corruption
to them and to the expectants
among the subject many.
Waste begets corruption,
corruption waste, till reciprocal
generation is
stopped by exhaustion as
now in England.
