7. during that. That as the demand for the relinquishment is
produced – not merely by impotence, but by the inevitable burthensomeness
of the several possessions even if retained or
regained, – that I moreover see is – that, in every event, the relinquishment should in every event, be entire:
in such sort that any the smallest present dependency, how solicitous soever to adhere to you, should not be suffered so
to do: for that, by every such dependency the of
which you give up, the ratio of the real expence or loss to
any expected profit from the remainder – (I do not say really receivable but expected profit) is necessarily encreased:

so that, the less the amount of what, on every each occasion, remains
after all former relinquishments, the stronger is the reason is
for the relinquishment of such remainder, even on the supposition
that the whole was, when in its integrant state,
profitable, and that the remnant in question yielded its equal
share or more than its equal share of that same total integral profit.

On the occasion of the considerations thus submitted,
it may be of use to you, I should scarce need mention, for what reason it
is that it is to you the people – to you the subject many in
quality of constituents, – possessors of the supreme constitutive power,
that this communication is addressed: to you the Constituents,
not to your deputed Agents and Representatives, – possessors, as jointly with
the Monarch they are, of the Supreme operative power. The Why
to you? For this plain reason – that in an address to the effect in question, so long as it
is toyou, my friends, that it is directed, there is no absurdity: "These being
"your interests, pursue these interests
": such throughout is the language.
on the other hand, if suppose the address directed to the possessors of the Supreme
operative power, it could not how could it be delivered without absurdity? such
absurdity, such as would suffice to cover the whole with a continual
tint of ridicule: Honorable Gentlemen! What I recommend to be done is – so and so: Your
interest is – that nothing of all this shall be done: This I depend May this, my
