1831. April 15
J. B. on Registration

17
12
I. Expense minimized
1. Building but one.

Quere

8. A necessary preliminary preliminary will accordingly be
the obtainment of plans of those same existing Offices: in each of
which plans should also be exhibited, by the draughts, information not
only of the several apartments contained in the building, but
also of the quantity of space occupied by the several receptacles
(psses, I believe they are called) contained in each
such apartment.

Quere

9. On or before that point of time, the necessity will be
felt — of consigning to destruction, or some different use, if any
such can be found for it — in the whole together, or in successive
parcels — the contents of the said Office: for, as it should
seem, it will not be thought requisite and necessary that the
quantity of this same building should swell to that of a town,
and that town, so long as the earth continues in an inhabited
state, continually receiving enlargement.

Quere

10. As this indispensable course of elimination or destruction
proceeded proceeds titles of written instruments will may take the place of the
instruments themselves, and so, in an endless chain, abridgements
of abridgments.

Quere

11. By this consideration, were there no other applicable — by
this consideration would be demonstrated the necessity of minimizing
the lengthiness of the written instruments at present
in general contemplation and in a word the demand for their
minimization. As to this matter, see what is said below under
the head of Maps.

12. Private libraries of printed books thin themselves,
as the usefulness of anterior, is destroyed by subsequent, information:
but for the exoneration of public libraries,
some authoritative operation ab extrà will at successive
periods become requisite.
