But the so strong and so strongly and universally
felt is the interest which in every country the burgess have in seeing
the rule of action in a state as path of being known, and
in every other respect as bad as possible, that all advices concurr
in representing the chance which any such offer has of finding
acceptance in any of the Assemblies as very inconsiderable
for in every Assembly the other members are have in matters of law,
in that country as in this been led blindfold by the lawyers. All
advices at the same time concurr in the assurance that should
my proposed book of laws make its appearance there under my
name, it would operate with tible influence. For the production
of such a work I have already an adequate ment,
in and by an application which has been made to me by the
constituted authorities of the Republic of Geneva to draw up a
compleat Code of Law for the use of that Commonwealth. This therefore
should it make its appearance, and have any thing good in it
applicable to the circumstances of your State your State will have
the benefit of, without need of any separate labour to be undertaken by me
for that express purpose: and if I live long enough, alack however
is not probable, from the point I shall pass on to the Civil Code.
Meantime, if in the Department in question, in the way of advice
upon this or that particular point, any occasion should present itself or alacrity
which my endeavours might be of use, you may judge if the satisfaction
with which these endeavours would be existed is I trust rendered
sufficiently manifest by the tax imposed on my time and
my eyes (which are in a lamentable state of workout) by the
writing of this letter. In a publication of mine entitled Paper
on Codification etc, information indication is given of the testimonies given
in favour of my by the penners of Bonaparte's Fiscual Penal Code,
shall in form and by Bexon, penner of the Bavarian Penal Code, by the Emperor
Alexander etc etc. In Geneva the constituted authorities have already made
