Simple personal injuries — in this case as in that
of simple personal injuries in the scale of sufferance
though it commences at 0, is not in capable of rising
as high as death. It may take the shape either of present
sufferance or of terror which in fear of future
sufferance includes, by reflection present sufferance.
For an example of present sufferance
take the production of a false opinion of the death
of a person dear, say a beloved wife, or child.
Thence tell's as story, probably but a story, of death's
produced by the news of the decapitation of
Charles the first: but at one time or other I
am sure I have either heard or read or both
of instances of death thus produced. Suppose
the story in question to be that of the person's
lying at the point of death at a distant
place, distance variable from 0 to the
Antipodes. Oft thereupon goes the destined
victim: here then besides mischief
in an endless variety of shapes is imposition
of expense: but this is a defence an offence of
a separate description as above.
Take another example. f For the purpose
of insult, obscenity to any degree
gross addressed to a modest woman
alone or in company say of Father,
Mother, or Daughter. This of itself you
