Sensitive, namely, that, to the happiness of which the influence of man
is extendible, Oh what a mass of misery will be saved, when men
have learnt to abstain from all Maleficence by which self-regarding interest
is not served! What a resource against ennui might not little acts
of Positive Beneficence be: – and Beneficence, – is not she the hand
maid of self-regarding Prudence? this she will be shown to be.
Note the relation between Deontology public and Do. private
Deontology from To Szov what is proper on each occasion to be done. Maleficence
in so far as it is repressible with advantage, by the force of
Government, belongs to Deontology public, to Penal laws: In
so far as it is not, to Deontology private to the domain of the
other sanctions.
