British India Hartford College Education System Master's Defence of it.

of this College? A comment sent to Mr Buckingham, who declined
making use of it, for fear of being accused of betraying the confidence
reposed in him by the Bookseller who communicated the Master's letters as above. Then the name of the Master?
That which Gentlemen desire to have, or at
any rate profess to desire to have, is – a regular &
constant supply of youths, possessed of certain qualifications endowments: endowments, which are to qualify them
for the exercise of certain functions in the Government
of the Company's possessions. Supporting these
endowments attained – attained in a given degree of
perfection, it will not I hope, be disputed, that the
less the expence at which they are attained – in particular
the less the expence to the Company – the
better.
I will show Gentlemen how, by a very simple
course, these endowments may and naturally will
be attached in the highest degree of perfection, with
much less expence than that at which, in the Seminary
in question, in no very high degree of perfection,
and at an enormous expence endeavours
have been employed in the causing them to be attached:
attained at less expence to Parents, and to
the company at little or no expence.
The means by which, in these and most
other endowments for public use, perfection may
be obtained, are neither difficult, nor unknown,
nor unexperienced. They are these –
1. Antecedently to the time at which, in relation to
the candidates in question, aptitude for the situation
in question is to be declared to have place
or not to have place, exercises performed by the
several candidates in public and the more numerous
and more miscellaneous the public,
