Ao 1821. August 15. Sketch of the a House for ye. York Street some
time inhabited by John Milton. It is situated in Westminster
in the House Street then called Petty France, but on the occasion
of the French Revolutionary War new christened new-named York Street. in
horror of France and honour of the Duke of York. This Sketch was
this day taken from the garden attached to the residence of Jeremy Bentham
into which garden the House has a door, being under the Dean and Chapter of Westminster his

his property. It was taken by the an unpracticed hand namely that of of Richard Doane
aged 16, one of his two Amanuenses. but exhibits no unapt representation of the original. From this House, on the
August 14 1821, under the direction of the said Jeremy Bentham, was cut
the Balustrade Pillar composed of four twisted columns presented
by him in company with this Sketch to his <add>truly dear and <add>highly respected friend Richard Rush, Envoy Extraordinary
&c to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
