My dear Sir
I know not how to thank you
sufficiently for your kind note of the 16th, and the
valued relick of Milton's residence that came with
it. But I give fair warning thus early, that I
cannot transfer it the latter to any museum whatever, but
must reserve it for a more selfish use, viz for my
own house when I get back to my country, where it
may serve to recall classic recollections in the
minds of my children, and where especially I
may be able to recount to my friends the gratifying
circumstances under which I obtained it.
Nor shall I in this be guilty of a breach of faith,
for that my promise only went to a piece of mortar, or brick,
