J.B.

Inclosed in the Letter to Liberator Bolivar in the packet
undertaken by Mr Echeverra
to Bolivar, to be transmitted to Bogota

Jeremy Bentham To Dr Foley

Good Doctor,

Permitt me to place myself under your protection. I have
learnt your existence from Echeverra. I write freely to
Directors Liberators and Protectors. I make my
to M. D.s. Permitt me to make, if I can some
title to your sympathy. About 4-1/2 years ago (I think it
was) I sat at the feet of Dr William Hanton, in his quality of Anatomist the Garrick of Lecturers
— he was off the stage I suppose before you were on it:
about 53 at those of Dr George Fordyce in his quality
of Chemist. I formed an acquaintance with him which produced
a marriage between my younger brother and one of his two daughters
Of all professional men those whom I most honour as such, — not to say
the only ones whom I do honour are those of the Medical profession.
It is matter of serious delight to me to know that he
whose business it has been to deliver men of all classes from
political evil in all its shapes has conducting about his person
a man whose special charge it is to keep him
and his delivered from physical evil in all its shapes.

Take out, now your weights and scales: see how many
grams of there are in what is above, either with yourself
how many pounds of seeds you will cause — send one for each
gram. When Liberator offers his order for a Botanical forage
for me, add to it your cgnation. If Should there be any
thing which it is in my power to do for Columbia, in your person
or through your hands, let me know what it is — it should
shall not be neglected. If you happen to know any thing about
Colonel Hall it would gratify me to have hear it hear it from you. You
yourself does it happen
Suporta hibada I have, in my Letter
to Liberator, taken leave to request may be put upon such papers
of seeds that as from their habitat are supposed capable of enduring
our frost: annua would be a useful indication for
those, if any, which may be expected to perfect their seeds in the
course of our summer: in which case their faculty of enduring
frost is comparatively immaterial.
