Tripolitza May 16. 1823.

My dear friend,

Reserving my more elaborate Epistles for
the monthly channels presented through the Ionian Islands,
this is merely to inform you that things are going on as well
as possible. To day has been rendered peculiarly interesting by
what occurred in the Chamber of Representatives, when I presented
the Philosopher's works and observations, and made a
speech_ L could not do less - he also gave in a Greek translation
of Lord 's Letter written at your Country House-the scene
was very affecting-out of the 60 Deputies present, there were
very few who did not shed tears / Nothing could exceed their
delight on hearing what the feeling is with regard to G in England.
Resolutions were immediately passed for translating
the works _an appropriate letter will also be written I have
found a man who is likely to devote the remainder of his life
to the study and propagation of M.r B's principles. This man is
a priest!!! very amiable and enlightened. I am taking the necessary
steps to set him to work But there is not a single type in
G much less a press!!!!! After a most horrible delay, the proposition
for a loan of 4 millions of dollars was made this day
it will be discussed and approved tomorrow or next day and
I hope I will set out before a week elapses. I am urging
this departure with all my might - When once off I shall turn
my thoughts to various important schemes. The is
but not without innumerable obstacles. These shall not,
however, deter me I hope you have done something For
Heaven's
