is most important is the character of the people.
They are said to possess many of the vicesvices of the asi—atie
nations, but they are sensible, shrewd, discrimina
ting, and anxious to acquire knowledge, and attached
to the legislative body.

Mr. Paraidi, Mavracordala's secretary, called
on me yesterday. He told me that Collocononi had
filled Napoli de Romani with his friends, that the le—gislative
assembly had in consequence quitted it &
had settled at Argos. The executive body adhered to
Collocononi. I told the secretary that while the go—vernment
remained in this state of anarchy. They
could expect no loan. He said their hopes were fixed
Maurocordato, and the expedition he was about to
undertake. He was first to proceed with some (15.) ships
and men to raise the blockade of missalongi & then
to make a decent opposite to Corfu on the coast of
Albania, where he calculated on a general rising.
Having received the intelligence, I reported to Ld. Byron,
be for Mr. Paraidi, to dress the executive & legislative
bodies, to represent to them the grief he feel at these
calamitous dessentions, dessentions that must thwart
all the that had been made to obtain a

The object of this proposed measure was to force
a reconciliation between the parties, or else to the
attack to the executive body the disgrace of having
thwarted the loan, and thereby to render them
to the people, and powerless.

We have this moment received good news,
if true. The Greek fleet has arrived at Callamantra

blockade of Missalongi, and will then proceed
