1824. Feby. 2. Copy Hon. Col. Leicester Stanhope to John Bowring esq. dated Messalongie 23d. Decr. 1823.

Mr dear Bowring. Official news.

The Turkish brig was pursued by a number of
the Greek ships on the 10th , and after a gallant
running fight, driven on a rock near Ithica. The
Greeks rifled the sinking ship and pursued 48
Turks who sought a refuse in the shire. Some
were killed, some escaped. The brig has 250,000
piastres on board for the payment of the soldiers at
Patras. Letters addressed to Usoff Pacha, the command—
ant and others, states that the troops had had no
pay for 18 months, and that the porte during that
period had not given them wherewithal "to pay the
barbers for shaving them." Usoff Pacha's bills for the pay—
ment of provisions had been rejected at Constantinople.
ciron The commandment of e applied to the porte for
cannoneers and ammunition. The reply was, that
they had not cannoneers even to supply the fleet with,
but that they would send a supply of ammunition.
On the 10th Decr., a Greek vessel with 20 men, attached
a Turkish Trabaculo, with 70 men on board. The
latter was proceeding from Patras to Preuesa, with
persons who fled on account of disorders that pre—
vail at Patras. The fight was so obstinate that the
Turkish vessel went down. Seven men were la—
shen and saved; of the rest, some reached the shore,
but most of them were killed.

Count Matasea, member of the executive body
has been persecuted, judged and discharged by the
legislative body, on account of having retired from
Napoli, and left the executive without a sufficient
body to act and pass laws. Collocotroni & Petrosebey
having been absent, and 3 members being required
is constitute aquarum.

Colliopulo having a dissension with Dillianopulo
about the territory of Carritea, they fought, 12 soldiers fell,
